SUSAN McDONALD RHEUBY

Susan McDonald Rheuby was raised in Thomasville, Alabama where she attended Thomasville High School. While there, she was head cheerleader and graduated high school in 1976. Following high school Susan attended the University of Montevallo where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She would later transfer to the University of Alabama in 1977 and was a founding member of UAB’s first cheerleading squad and was a head cheerleader. Susan met the love of her life, Robin Rheuby, on Labor Day Weekend of 1976 at Fort Walton Beach, Florida and BAM! That was it. From there, the two of them were engaged within eight weeks and lived a life of love, friendship, and excitement for 44 years. She resided in Hueytown, Alabama where she worked as an educator for over 30 years. From Brookville Elementary, Hueytown Elementary, Pittman Middle, Monroeville Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, and Oak Grove High School, Susan was recognized multiple times as 2nd Mile Teacher. Susan embodied the values of a true educator and constantly went above and beyond the requirements of the classroom. Susan coached children in cheerleading, gymnastics, wrestling, and newcomb. She was a true believer in people and always able to find beauty wherever she looked. Susan spent her free time painting canvases, creating artwork, and drawing murals across the state of Alabama. Susan McDonald Rheuby, or “Honey” as she was known to her grandchildren, is survived by her husband and love of her life: Robin Rheuby, her children: John Dalton Rheuby (Carla), Macie Rheuby, RaLeigh Evans (Robbie), and Dillon Rheuby, her grandchildren: Colt Rheuby, Gus Hammonds, Rheuby Susan Hammonds, and Jeanne Bette Rheuby, her mother: Kathryn Latham (Robert), and her sister: Beth Morgan (Wynn). The world is more joyous and the light more luminous because she lived. Though she may be gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts. Memorial Service at First United Methodist Church of Hueytown at 3:30pm April 6, 2021 with presiding clergy John Verciglio and John Simmons. Preceded in Death By her father John Decatur McDonald. Family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or local charity Mission 44.
