JEANETTE HOLSENBACK

Jeanette, Aunt Nette to many, passed away February 3 after a long battle with vascular dementia. She was born in Bessemer, Alabama and grew up with her three sisters, often working in the family grocery store, having fun with cousins and neighborhood friends. On June 15, 1967, she married the love of her life and started her family, living in Oak Grove and Hueytown, making many lifelong friendships. Jeanette loved Jesus and was never afraid to let anyone know. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Hueytown for many years and was active in its programs. She cultivated a very large rose garden and would often take roses to those she loved "just because". Jeanette could be seen riding through Hueytown in her red Porsche, music blaring. She retired to Pell City, Alabama in 2002 to live on Logan Martin Lake, where she helped organize a community bible study group called "The SonShine Family". This group was a very big part of her life, and she would often travel with them and also organize many charitable programs. She treasured attending her children's and grandchildren's activities, known to cheer very loudly. In 2013 she moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama to be closer to her children and their families and to the beach she loved. She adored Mardi Gras and attended many of the parades and parties. She found much pleasure in traveling and adventure seeking. Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, JD and Clara Suttles of Bessemer, Alabama and her sister Evelyn Derbyshire of Hueytown, Alabama. She is survived by her life-long companion, John Holsenback; children, Ginger and her son-in-law, Jonathan Byrd of Fairhope, Alabama, John Daniel and her daughter-in-law Heather Holsenback of Daphne, Alabama; grandchildren, Emma "Emma my Emma" and Faith Byrd, and Elizabeth "Diamond" Byrd and her grandson-in-law, Anthony Calkins; sisters, Ellen Parden and Sharon Black, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life & Memorial, which will be held at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home, 195 Brooklane Dr, Hueytown, AL 35023 on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Alzheimer's Association or the Dementia Society of America.
