JAMES "JIMMY" DAVID REED

James (Jimmy) David Reed, Sr, age 92, formerly of Adamsville (Westwood area), AL, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 from vascular dementia at his son’s home in Flower Mound, TX. He was born August 11, 1929 in Hueytown, Alabama to the late James Thomas Reed, Jr. and Kathleen Huey Reed. He was the oldest of seven children. For the first eight years of his life, his family lived in Dolomite and Hueytown, Alabama. In 1937, the Reed family moved to their newly built home on High School Road across the street from Hueytown High School. He graduated from Hueytown High School in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Louise Verchot, on January 5, 1950. He served in the U. S. Army 1952-1954. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church (between Adamsville and Forestdale, AL). He retired in August 1991 from American Cast Iron Pipe Co. (formerly ACIPCO; now known as American) after 37 years of service. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Louise Eugenia Verchot Reed, who died in 2011; sister Bobbie “Bobbie Jean” Sellers; brothers Charlie “Charles Edwin” Reed William Earl “Woog/Woogie” Reed, Don “Donald Murry”, Nicky “Nicky Lamont” Reed. He is survived by his children son & daughter-in-law David “James David, Jr” & Kay “nee Benson” Reed, of Flower Mound, TX; daughter & son-in-law Teresa “Teresa Lynn” & Mike “Michael John” Rice, of Chelsea, AL; grandchildren Nick “Nicholas Lawson” Rice and his wife Alicia “Alicia Dawn Schulte”, Jonathan “Jonathan Daniel” Reed, of Imperial, PA, Brittany “Brittany Nicole Rice” and her husband, Lance “Eric Lance” McCain, of Chelsea, AL, Natalie “Natalie Christine Rice” and her husband Holice “Holice Byron” Jenkins, Jr., of Pelham, AL, Deanna “Deanna Lauren Reed” and her husband, Carl “Carl Samuel” McCabe, of Justin, TX, Stephanie Michelle Reed of Corsicana, TX; great grandchildren Taylor Lawson, William John & Alexander James Rice, of Helena, AL, Elaina Nicole Reed of Imperial, PA, Claire Reagan McCain, of Chelsea, AL; Isabel Leah Jenkins of Pelham, AL; Brinlee Grace and Teagan Kate McCabe of Justin, TX; sister Kay Russell of Birmingham, AL; sisters-in-law Sherry Reed formerly of Panama City, FL, Claudette Reed of Oak Grove, AL, Patricia Reed of Trussville, AL; many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Nick Rice, Jonathan Reed, Lance McCain, Carl McCabe, Holice Jenkins, and Ricky Hinton. The visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The graveside service will be at 2:00 PM at Highland Memorial Gardens.
