Obituary Doris Jennings Fancher Doris Jennings Fancher, age 82, of Hueytown entered her Heavenly home July 16, 2017 with her beloved family members by her side. Doris was born in Hueytown Al. on October 8, 1934. She was a 1954 graduate of Hueytown High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Fancher, who she met while both were employed at AmSouth Bank (Regions) where they later retired. James was branch manager at the Bessemer office while Doris last worked as Assistant Manager at the Mtn. Brook office. She was also preceded in death by her parents, T.Z. and Arlie Jennings, Hueytown, and her sister, Mary Jennings Farrar McArthur, Akron, Ohio. She is survived by two sisters, Gaye Jennings Morris (Billy) Anniston and Peggy Jennings Hicks (Gerald) of Hueytown, as well as several Nieces, Nephews, great Nieces, great Nephews and Cousins and numerous friends whose love and compassion during the past several months were so abundant. The family is also grateful to Doris’s special friend and fellow church member, James Fleming, who was by her side during their mutual struggle with Cancer. Their time together was some of her happiest years. Following her husband’s death in 1998, Doris moved back to Hueytown from Shelby County, where she and her husband had retired. She joined Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and became very active in WMU and also served on the church nominating committee, the decorating committee and the benevolence committee. For many hours and many days, she participated in visiting the Homebound and caring for those who were less fortunate. Doris also left her mark on her community with membership in the Study Club, the No Name Club, Hueytown Historical Society and her work with the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Business & Professional Women. The Chamber recognized Doris for her civic endeavors in 2006 by naming her the Hueytown Citizen Of The Year. She was not present at the annual banquet to accept her award, however, as she was in Akron, Ohio, caring for her sister, Mary, who was critically ill. More recently, Doris enjoyed her work with children in Vacation Bible School and assisting with children in ESL (English Second Language.) She also held offices in the Hueytown High School Alumni Association and the Western Area Republican Club. Such was the life and legacy of our dear one. In looking back on her life, she lived it to the fullest. Doris loved all the holidays, decorating her home in season. If you needed to borrow something unique or unusual ….. Doris had it! She gladly shared and always offered her assistance. The words laughter, kindness and generosity come to mind in remembering her. She brought happiness and excitement to every occasion. A memorial service to honor Doris's life will be held at PRBC on Sunday, July 23 with visitation at 2:00 pm with the service to follow at 3:00 pm. Dr. Josh Cook, Pastor Billy W. Morris and Jonathan Riddle will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested that memorials be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Reach For Tomorrow Fund. 1343 Hueytown Road Hueytown, Al. 35023 The family is also grateful to the wonderful nurses and staff of Comfort Care Hospice.
