DONALD LEE COOK

Donald Lee Cook, of Sylvan Springs, went to his heavenly home on Monday, September 22, 2025. He grew up in Bayview, Alabama playing with his brothers, sister, and friends. He played football at Minor High School, but left early his senior year to join the United States Navy. He later received his GED. He always said, “He joined the navy to see the whole world, but only got to see half of it.” He was very proud to have served his country in the US Navy from 1965 to 1970. He was married to Anita, his best friend and sweetheart for almost 50 years. He attended Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene in his youth, and became a member of Maytown Baptist Church when he got married until his death. He loved his wife Anita and his family very much. Don took the title of husband very seriously, as he grew older, he made sure Anita was well taken care of. He adored being called dad by his children. His pride and joy were his grandchildren CD and Cheyanna. His buddy was CD (Charles) and his Princess Cheyanna was called Cinderella, Cheyanna Lynne-Lou pumpkin pie, or Cha Cha. Don was known as Pawpaw to his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and we will all see him again in heaven someday. Don was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Kyle Cook and Isabella Salter Cook; brothers (Norvel) Arthur Norvel Cook and (Ray) Raymond Earl Cook; brothers-in-law Chester Stafford and Glenn Blackwell; sisters-in law Nancy Cook and Edna Cook; niece Kimberly Blackwell Syfrit and Michelle Cook. He is survived by his wife Anita Lynne Higgins Cook; his children Briana Kaye Cook Pasley (Jeff) of Hueytown and Matthew Donald Cook of Sylvan Springs; grandchildren Charles Donald Pasley and Cheyanna Lynne-Lou Pasley of Hueytown; sister Charlotte Ruth Stafford of Atlanta, Georgia; brother George Emery Terrell Cook of McCalla; sister-in-law Connie Blackwell of Sylvan Springs; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home. His friend and previous pastor Brother John Killian will be speaking at the service. Burial will follow at Prescott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to American Heart Association or your favorite church. Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my right hand.” Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
