SHIRLEY ANN SMELCER

November 16, 1930 - June 15, 2020

A devoted wife, mother, Mimi, 65 year Midfield, Al resident, long time faithful member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church & 20+ year literacy/GED volunteer tutor at Midfield Civic Center, avid gardener and bird watcher began a beautiful life of good deeds on November 16, 1930 in Albany, Indiana. She became the devout wife of Orthmier Harold Schuster (predeceased) in 1947. Beginning a overgrowing family as a dedicated loving mother a short time later (1949) giving birth to her devoted son, Robert Sterling Schuster followed by the (1953 birth of her loving daughter Katherine Gladys Stinett. She later worked as a long time sales clerk and devoted many years to literacy and GED education, changing many lives until her peaceful passing into her eternal life of heavenly bliss, June 15, 2020. She is survived by her beloved children; Robert Schuster (Tammy), Katherine Gladys Stinett (Harold), her grandchildren; Robert Alfano (Denise), Ashley Lee (Adam), Danna Crocker (Steven), Laurie Smith, Kimberly Brickell, Nathan Schuster, Stacey Burgett (Jason), Jodi Cone (Allan), and Denise Hunter (Johnathon), her great grandchildren; Sterling Alfano, Tanner Alfano, Autumn Lee, Savannah Lee, Harrison Lee, Jeydon Lynn, Raegan Morton, Cambria Brickell, Serenity Sadler (Autumn), Paige Fendley, Alexis Peek (Daniel), Styles Parson, Alyx Meyer (Kyle), Damon Meyer, Mykel Cone, Rayne Ivey, Jacob Ragsdale, Hope Ragsdale, Allen Hunter, JJ Hunter, and Haven Hunter; & her great-great-grandchildren; Natelyn Moore Amari Perkins, Wyatt Perkins, Zayn Peaks, MyKala Meyer and Oliver Duncan. Her Brother in-law; Michiel Schuster (Jeanett), nieces; Patty Kay Ellis (George) and Georgia (Susan) Smith The love for our sweet Mimi surpasses this earthly realm as she is predeceased by her beloved parents, Roberta Wilton Metcalf; Elseworth Nathaniel Metcalf and Gladys Katherine Metcalf (who raised her after her mother’s passing), The love of her life, Orthmier Harold Schuster, her second husband James Smelcer, her sister Marilyn Bradford, & sister inlaws; Elizabeth (Betty) Schuster Smith & Dorothy Joyce Schuster Mitchell (Bob). The celebration of the beautiful life of Mrs. Shirley Ann Smelcer will be held on June 22, 2020. The visitation will be at at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home, Hueytown,from 12:30-1:45 PM. The graveside service will be at Highland Memorial Gardens at 2 PM, with Pastor Jodi Cone officiating. Schuster can be made to the Cancer Society (donate3.cancer.org), in remembrance of their great love, life & dedication to one another or Garden City Congregational Church Memorial Fund for Shirley Smelcer has been designated to feed the hungry in remembrance of her dedication and compassion for others. Her love, devotion, wisdom, dignity, strength, helping hand and faithful spirit will forever be missed, & may all her beauty be passed down in each of us & the generations to come.
