RUBY JOYCE HARRIS Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

We are rejoicing that our mother, Ruby Joyce Harris went to join our heavenly Father, on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, at the age of 94. Joyce was born February 20, 1928, in Tupelo Mississippi, to Tom and Ophelia (Mink) Segars. She joined her husband, Billy Ray Harris, and sister Peggy Segars Brewis (Ronnie) in heaven. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Wade (Margaret) Segars of Waco, Texas. Her four children Brenda Humphreys of Mobile, Stephen Harris of Adger, Linda (Bruce) Cain of Tuscaloosa and Phillip (Michelle) Harris of Hueytown. She shares loving memories of her 5 grandchildren, Maegan (Jeremy) Roper of McCalla, Julie (Ryan) Whitcomb of Nashville, Brent Humphreys of Mobile, Lindsey (Jared) Bradford of Cahaba Heights and Natalie (Chris) Stanfield of Hoover, along with 8 great grandchildren, Emmalyn, Harrison, Hampton, Rylie, Selah, Willow, Simon and Colin. Joyce started out her life without her mother, Ophelia who died in childbirth. She was raised by her mother’s parents, Marvin and Edna Mink, on a farm outside of Red Bay Alabama. When her father, Tom, remarried to Celia Bostick, she went to live with them and her brother, Thomas Wade and sister, Peggy Ann, in Sulligent, Alabama. She met the love of her life at Sulligent High School and married in 1946, as soon after graduating. She was wonderful, caring Wife and Mother, who was always active in her church and loved serving others. She loved gardening and traveling. She loved sharing and cooking her vegetables from her garden. After Billy retired from U.S. Steel, they sold their home in Hueytown and moved to Panama City Beach, Florida. They enjoyed living next door to cousin, Charles and Virginia Hill, and friends Johnnie and Lois Coughlin; and keeping up with cherished friends Tom and Cherry Creekmore, made panhandle living a dream. But…Billy and Joyce decided to make more friends, selling their home, and lived full-time in their motorhome. Joyce and Billy traveled extensively through 49 states, Canada and Mexico. After Billy passed in 2003 Joyce lived in Mobile with her daughter Brenda, until her health and dementia pushed her into Park Manor Health and Rehab in Northport, in March of 2022, to be close to family. This lovely Redhead was a true southern lady. All family and friends will miss her. The visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.
