MARY ELIZABETH PETERSON WILLIS

Mary was 78 years old at the time of her passing. She battled a yearlong fight with Dementia and Severe Congestive Heart Disease. Mary passed peacefully at home on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 3:30pm Mary was born on 4/25/1942 to Father Henry Thomas Peterson and Mother Elsie Inez (Martin) Peterson. Mary attended and graduated from Hueytown High School. Mary married Willie Andrew (Andy) Willis and had 4 sons: Jeffery Allen Peterson (Deceased in infancy), Bruce Andrew Willis; David Gregory Willis (Deceased); Paul Thomas Willis (Deceased). Mary and her family attended Birmingport Baptist Church where she helped in Nursery. She loved taking care of the babies. Along with caring for her family, Mary worked full time outside the home. She delivered mail for 18 years at the Post Office located in Mulga, AL and worked for the State of Alabama Department of Corrections (William E. Donaldson Facility) as a Mail Clerk for 17 years. Mary lived out her final days in Dora, AL with her son Bruce and daughter-in-law Rhonda Willis. Mary was surrounded by family and lived in a home designed especially to meet her needs during her last days. They say it takes a village – Mary had her village. From those that helped build her home, to those that provided care and comfort. An important part of that Village was the Aids and Nursing staff of Kindred Health Services. Mary is survived by her son Bruce Willis (Rhonda), Granddaughter: Brittany Lynne Willis and Great-grandson Jase Swink. Step Grandchildren: Eric Stephens - son Ben; Amy Hall (Jeremy) children Stephen and Mary-Elizabeth Hall. The visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The graveside service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Concord Baptist Church.
