Huey, Lila Faye Flowers entered heaven Sunday, January 16, 2022. Faye was such a joy to know. She was a beautiful person who loved life and was happiest when talking with a friend or family member, especially over a cup of coffee. You might say Faye was a lovely lady who perfected the art of conversation and of loving others very well. She was the “baby” of her family of five brothers and one sister in the tiny town of Sweetwater, Alabama, where she was born in 1928. These siblings helped their father, LaFette “Fate” Flowers, raise Faye after her mother Ella Lodell Hamilton Flowers’ death when Faye was only 7 years old. A few years later her family moved to the Bessemer/Hueytown area where they all eventually established homes for their own families. After Faye graduated from a boarding school in Mississippi, she married Benny C. Huey and they built their home together in Hueytown. Faye’s great joy was their daughter Sharon and her grandson Andrew. They were all members of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where Faye made lifelong friends. She was an active member in her Sunday School Class, WMU, and serving Wednesday night meals. Faye worked for years at Alabama Gas Company in Bessemer greeting each customer with a smile and a chat if they had time. In retirement, she loved exploring antique stores, garage sales, visiting friends and relatives, and, of course, conversations over a cup of coffee…even better in a pretty, delicate china cup. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her older sister Lucille Flowers Rocket, her brothers Owen, C.B., Jim, Harrell, and Marion Flowers and by many beloved nephews and nieces. She is survived by her loving daughter Sharon Little (Mike) and grandson Andrew Ray.Also surviving her are her nephews, Phil, Larry, Ken, and Andy Flowers and Rodney Rocket, who loved her and teased her constantly. Aunt Faye will also be missed by her niece Nancy Flowers Dubois. Joining these in grieving Aunt Faye are many grand and great grandnephews and nieces. Donations can be made in her memory to operationsmile.org.A private graveside service will be conducted for the family on Thursday, January 20.
