JEREMY BENJAMIN PHILLIPS

Jeremy Benjamin Phillips born November 21, 1977 passed away in Birmingham, AL on September 28, 2019 at UAB’s Palliative Care Center with his family at his side. Jeremy grew up in Hueytown, AL, attending grade school there, received an international baccalaureate diploma from Shades Valley Resource Learning Center, then went on to The University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL. An accomplished pianist, he played piano for St. Andrews Episcopal Church while attending college. Highly-intelligent, quick-witted and fun-loving, a favorite, but “serious” daily past time was watching and playing along with Jeopardy. He had an uncanny ability to spout off lines or tell you backstories from many movies, who the stars were and how many awards they had won. Jeremy loved serving people, working in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. He loved sports of all kinds, especially watching the Auburn Tigers (“War Eagle”) and attending races at Talladega. Jeremy loved his family, talking weekly with his father, and often visiting the family home. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Marietta Phillips, his grandparents Herman and Dolly Phillips and James and Nadine Perry and his best friend Michael Hallisey. He leaves behind his devoted father Earnest (Sonny) Phillips, brothers Chris Phillips (Kim) and James Phillips (LeighAnn), sisters Rebekah Phillips Brown (Jeremy) and Rachel Phillips McGahon (Barry), as well as his nieces and nephews Keith Phillips, Hunter Higgins, Krista Phillips, Chase Higgins, Bethany Phillips, Joanna Phillips, Melanie Phillips, Philip Brown, Avery Brown and Patrick McGahon. His MaMaw Mary Lois Starman. Loved by everyone who knew him, he leaves behind too many to name, however, the family wishes to acknowledge some most special friends who were constant companions during his illness including Lyn & Mickey Berry, Bronnie Cox, Alisha “Cowgirl” Dahle, Amy Garren, Holly Heilman, and his life partner Wesley Turley. He also leaves behind his precious fur babies Lilo and Stitch. They also wish to thank UAB Hospital, especially the GI Floor and CCU Units, Advanced Care floor teams, and Palliative Care Center. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home in Hueytown, AL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service at 11:00 AM. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you give to your favorite charity.
