Edith Carrington Arthur was born June 7, 1937 in Lockhart, Alabama. The family moved to Birmingham when she was 4 years old. She attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Ensley High School. After graduation she was employed by ACIPCO, and worked there until her retirement. Edith grew up attending Hunter Street Baptist Church, where she enjoyed sharing her gift of song. Later she continued her singing at Vinesville Baptist and First Baptist Church Pleasant Grove. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Edith went to be with her Savior on February 1, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Arthur, her parents Ed and Freida Carrington, her sister Mildred Ratliff, Helen Faucett, Juanita Carrington and Alice Bowden and brother Edward DeWitt Carrington. She is survived by her sisters Martha Stroud and Mary Carrington West and many nieces and nephews, to whom she is their sweet DoodleBug. Edith was a beloved sister, aunt and friend, who spent her whole life serving others, and by doing so served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Should you wish to honor her memory, donations to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude’s Childrens Research Center, or your favorite charity will be greatly appreciated. “As you have done it to the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.” The visitation will be Monday, February 7, 2022 at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral will be at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
