DORIS JEAN MAYS

January 11, 2022

Our community sadly lost a valued member on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 when Mrs. Doris Jean Mays, favorably known as Miss Doris, passed away. Her contributions to the lives of many through her work at Union Hill Baptist Church and her personal life include Church Secretary, assisting the Homebound Ministry, working with the American Heart Association and numerous other programs. Doris is survived by the loving community of Rock Creek and her two children; Michael Mays and Rebecca Dickson (Kenneth), and two grandchildren; Patrick Mays and Cassie Crews (Michael). Mrs. Mays is also survived by one brother, James Vines (Lynette) and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Ed) Mays, her parents, Leroy and Marjorie Vines, and one brother, Larry Vines (Sylvia). Her legacy of service will live on in the hearts and minds of her family and everyone she interacted with, as well as those she reached but never met. A special “Thank you” to the caregivers and those who assisted with her care; Home Care Ministry, Angie Mays, and Comfort Care Hospice. The support of this team allowed her to enjoy her final years at home. Unfortunately, the current circumstances prevent a memorial service and a graveside service will be for immediate family only. We know there are many who wish to share their stories of remembrance and there will be a memorial service held in the future. Her faith and passion for service to the community are an example of her selflessness. Flowers deliveries will be to Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. In the spirit of our community donations are always welcome and can be made to Union Hill Baptist Church.
