Bernard “Wayne” York, age 75 of Hueytown, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 15, 2020, surrounded by family and friends. Wayne was a long time member of Concord Highlands Baptist Church. He retired after 33 years with U.S. Steel where he was employed as a welder. Wayne loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest, he enjoyed hunting and fishing; playing golf, pool and in his younger years riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed spending time at home with his family and friends. Wayne loved country music, his dogs and cats, being front and center in his lucky chair during football season to cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Wayne was a loving son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Bernard Lee York and Katherine Bernice York Wade; brother Terry Lynn York; father and mother in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur “Wolf” Newell; sister-in-law Patricia Newell Noe; and grandson Joshua Blake Wallace. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Carole Newell York; daughters, Tera Diane York and Bari Wallace (Mark); son, “Kip” Sellers (Kristy); nephew, Jeff York (April); sister-in-law, Debbie York; granddaughters, Alexa Kae Meggs (James McCombs), Jenna Wallace, Jessica Sellers (JoJo); grandsons, Matt Wallace (Candi) and Steven Sellers. He was the proud great grandfather of Rhyne Dale McCombs, Tytus Blake Wallace, and Saban Fowler. The visitation will be from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM, Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 12:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
