WILLIAM THOMAS MEDDERS

William Thomas Medders, 76 Years of age, passed on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at UAB Medical West Hospital in Bessemer Alabama. William (Bill) was born March 9, 1947, in McCalla Alabama to the late WT Medders and Sarah Medders. He was the oldest of three children. Bill began his education in Hueytown Alabama, graduating from Hueytown High School. He then proceeded to the University of Alabama and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in November of 1969 to serve his country in war. Captain Bill Medders served his country by training pilots in the Vietnam War. He served 6 years before receiving an honorable discharge in September of 1975. Bill met his wife, Kathy Jo Medders, in May of 1983 at a gun range, thought to be a harmless event, they quickly discovered they had much in common. They married on October 12, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bill is survived by his lovely wife, Kathy Jo Medders; children, Stacy Andrews (Brent), Stephanie Scott (Craig), Khristina Duncan, and Meredith Rigby (Chad); grandchildren, Alyssa Andrews, Danielle Hix, Kira Andrews, Devan Scott, Preston Scott, Cody Scott, Savannah Grace Scott, Taylor Rhea Ayedelott, Alli Jo Ayedelott, Riley Tomlinson, Colton Rigby, Cheyenne Logan, and Chase Rigby; great-grandchildren, Bowen Starks, Rhylan Hix, Pierce Scott, Lemon Scott, Sarah Scott, Marlee Meister, and Scotty Meister; brother Trent Medders (Donna); sister Debbie Durham (Gary) ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad will forever be remembered for his love for Mom, God, his girls (baby girl Natalie), and Alabama football. His last priority was to return home to the very house he grew up in to be close to his family. He looked forward to fishing and hunting again with his brother; unfortunately, he was called home before he made that trip. Dad was known for telling stories of his experience playing for Bear Bryant, teaching pilots combat flying, how he knew mom was his soul mate from first glance, and all the many things as children we thought we had gotten away with. We love you Dad for all the hats, helmets, and stripes you wore, but mostly for the love for God, Mom, and your girls. The visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM, Friday, May 12, 2023, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 12:45 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 2:30 PM at Alabama National Cemetery. If you plan to attend the Military Honors please at the Cemetery no later than 2:15 PM.
