PHILLIP DOUGLAS CONTORNO

Phillip Douglas Contorno, age 77, of Hueytown, Alabama, entered Glory, into the presence, of his Lord and Savior, on February 7, 2023. After his courageous battle against Cancer, Phillip crossed from his earthly home, in Hueytown, to his Heavenly home, surrounded by his adoring wife, Lee Henry Contorno, and his loving Family. Phillip possessed a gentle, loving, giving Soul, with a “Heart of Gold”. He was well known, for his generosity, and commitment, to his Church, Community, Country, and above all, his Family and his God. Phillip lived a full Life, filled with Joy, Love, Adventure, Successes, and the challenges, trials, and frailties, of being Human. Phillip faced the World, while having Peace, in the Lord’s Forgiveness, Victory, and promise, of Eternal Life, through his Savior, Jesus Christ. Phillip was a loving husband to his wife, Lee, for 35 years. Phillip and Lee were Blessed, with an amazing, dynamic, loving relationship, working “side by side”, in all aspects, of their lives. Phillip was a loving Father, of three. Bryan (Tracy) Contorno, Jacob (Angela) Contorno, Angi (Anthony) Stephenson. Phillip was a fun loving “Poppie” to seven Grandchildren. Laura (Thomas) Smith, Emily Contorno, Kody Collins, Conner Collins, Brooks Contorno, Lily Anne Contorno, Tristan Stephenson. Two Great Grands, Anniston Smith and Wade Smith. And, a host of other kiddos, who called Phillip, “Poppie”, or Uncle Phillip”. Phillip is survived by his Family, Church Family, grateful Community, and countless Friends. Phillip was a contributing Member, of the Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, in McCalla. AKA First Presbyterian Church, where he, also served as an Elder. Civic and Community “Service” included: City of Hueytown Councilman 18 years, City Council President, multiple Committee Chairman, Youth Soccer Program, Renovation Bud Newell Ball Park (donating materials/ labor), Relay For Life Team Leader, Spring Fest Committee, American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Hueytown Emergency Van Driver, Tornado Relief, Dixie Youth Baseball Program, ETC. Phillip’s Civic/Community involvement was honored, in many ways, including Outstanding Citizen of The Year 2011, Grand Marshall Ballpark Parade, Commendations, Organization recognitions, ETC. Phillip’s professional career, as a Master Plumber and Gas/Steam Fitter spanned over 40 years, including: Foreman BSE and McAfee at U. S. Steel Plant, in Fairfield, Member Local 91, and his own very successful Family Owned business, SOS Plumbing. Their (Lee and Phillip) Family business was based on Customer/Client ‘Word of Mouth” referrals, not ads. Phillip Douglas Contorno was preceded, in Death by his Father, Phillip P. Contorno, Mother, Velma M. Contorno, and Step Father, James G. Henry. “Go Rest High on that mountain. Son, your work on Earth is done. Go to Heaven a-shoutin. Love for the Father and the Son”! The visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the Funeral Home.
