PATRICIA "PATSY" BROTHERS DUNN

Patricia “Patsy” Brothers Dunn, age 85, of Hueytown, AL, passed away peacefully in her home on June 23, 2015. Born Sept. 12, 1929, in Birmingham, Patsy was the daughter of Florence and George Brothers. She grew up in Biloxi, MS, and eventually moved back to the Birmingham area after meeting the love of her life, John R. Dunn, whom she wed on January 2, 1948. They spent the next several decades cultivating their life in Hueytown with their children. Patsy was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast – spending her summers tilling rows of vegetables, canning and assisting with her son’s baseball team. Patsy lived to serve the Lord, her family and her community. She was a lifelong active member of Hueytown's First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in Adult Fellowship Sunday School, Koinonia Circle, and Nifty/Fifty. She played an integral role in the start-up of Hueytown’s Little Boys Baseball League, doing whatever was needed, from raising money to purchase uniforms to working tirelessly in the concession stand. Patsy loved her family unconditionally, traveling throughout the Southeast to attend her grandchildren’s countless sporting events and beauty pageants. She showed her unwavering devotion to her husband, serving as his primary caregiver throughout his lengthy illness. Her many acts of selflessness will be remembered by all, as she touched the lives of so many. Patsy was preceded in death by her father, George Brothers; mother, Florence Gardner Greinke; step-father, John Greinke; husband, John R. Dunn; sister, Greta Brown; and son, John Ronald Dunn, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Greta Litton (David) of Panama City Beach, FL and Julia Dunn of Hueytown, AL; grandchildren, April Gibson (Tim) of Lynn Haven, FL, Jonathan Herring of Hueytown, and Lindsey Herring of Hueytown; great-grandchildren, Avery and Alexandra Gibson of Lynn Haven, FL; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our mother. The visitation will be Saturday, June 27, 2015, from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery. The Rev. Hillard Vance will be officiating.
