MELVIN ALLEN HEAD

Melvin Allen Head, born on November 29, 1947, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, just shy of his 78th birthday. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and cherished family member, Melvin was known for his kindness, wisdom, and gentle humor. He shared a remarkable 56-year marriage with his loving wife, Nancy Head, a bond built on love, partnership, and shared memories that will forever be treasured. Together, they created a family filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. Melvin was the beloved son of Henry and Drucilla Head, who instilled in him the values of integrity, compassion, and a strong work ethic. He is also survived by his brother, Alton Head, and several nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish their memories with him. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Deanna (Bill) Salter and Lisa (Heath) Lauderdale, and a devoted grandfather to Melody (Jason) Carrell, Kristian (Maison) McCullough, Brett Lauderdale, and Brody Lauderdale. Melvin also adored his greatgrandchildren: Isabella Hill, Willow McCullough, and Ryder Carrell, who brought immense joy and laughter to his life. Melvin began his working career pouring concrete and doing construction. He spent ten years employed by Pullman Standard, contributing his skills and dedication to his work. Later, he became a security officer at Birmingham Southern College, where he faithfully served until his retirement. Not quite ready to slow down, he returned to work at Jefferson County Road and Transportation, where he officially retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, commitment, and integrity. Beyond his career, Melvin will be lovingly remembered for his cooking ministry, through which he shared meals and fellowship with countless people over many years. As a member of Smithville Baptist Church for 18 years, he also brought joy and magic to the community as Santa Claus, delighting children at church and in the neighborhood, as well as bringing holiday cheer to the elderly at local nursing homes. His generosity, warmth, and dedication to spreading happiness left a lasting impression on all who knew him. The visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Smithville Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Smithville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Brett Lauderdale, Brody Lauderdale, Jason Carrell, Maison McCullough, Jeff Powers, Jacob Powers, Dan Austin, and Billy Franklin. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Snow and Ryder Carrell. Melvin Allen Head’s life was a testament to love, family, service, and joy. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched.
