LUCILLE LEWIS SHOEMAKER

SHOEMAKER, LUCILLE LEWIS Age 98, of Hueytown, peacefully entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on March 23. She was born in Bibb County in 1913 and reared in the Valley Creek Community in west Jefferson County where she lived in her home in Hueytown until her death. Her life's work was loving and caring for her family and countless others in her church & community. She was a wonderful cook and took pride in the fact that her cakes would quickly disappear at church gatherings. She was an active member of Valley Creek Baptist church for 84 years where she faithfully and quietly served as pianist, Sunday School secretary, and for more than 45 years loved and nurtured generations of babies and children in the nursery department. She loved to sing and would joyfully raise her beautiful voice in worship and praise. "Aunt Cile" is survived by her brother, Arnold Lewis of Tuscaloosa and her sister-in-law, Delores Shoemaker of Bessemer . Surviving nieces and nephews: Dale Lewis (Carol) of Oneonta, Lanny Lewis (Karen) of Pleasant Grove, Gay Lynn Lindsey (Kermit) of Hueytown, Perry Jones of Bessemer, Bob Nabors (Evelyn) of Midfield, Mike Nabors (Linda) of Hueytown, Phillip Nabors of Birmingham, Roger Lewis (Debbie) of Gadsden, David Shoemaker (Brenda) of Woodstock, Tony Shoemaker of Daphne, Al. and Linda Johnson (Charles) of Powder Springs, Ga. And many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her parents G.W. and Bama Lewis, her husband Carl W. Shoemaker, her brothers G.W. Lewis, Jr. and Jewel Lewis, her sisters Louise Nabors and Olene Jones. The family will receive friends Monday, March 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at Valley Creek Baptist Church with burial following at Valley Creek Cemetery . The Rev. Kevin Blackwell will preside over the services. The family extends love and gratitude to her loving friend and caregivers Bertalia Rivet and Barbara Wilkinson. Also sincere love & gratitude is expressed to special friend and nurse Evelyn Flowers and to Shirley, Denise, Barbara, Juanita & Lauren of New Beacon Hospice for your loving care. Thanks to special friend of many years, Lorene Scoggins, for her friendship, love and care. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Valley Creek Baptist Church Nursery Dept. in her memory.
