JIMMY NEAL SIMPSON

Jimmy Neal Simpson was born at home on September 15, 1939. He was born in a small community known as "Beat 10" located in Walker County, Alabama. He made Hueytown Alabama his home for the past 59 years. He loved Hueytown and the people in it. He had very recently moved to Helena, Alabama to be closer to his children. He went to his Heavenly home on May 21, 2022.He attended Jones Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama, He excelled in the subject of math. He joined the Navy in 1958 and served his country for 5 years. He worked at U.S. Steel for 36 years. While employed there he worked in plant security and was also an assistant fire chief in their fire department. He received his Associate's Degree in Business from Jefferson State Community College all while working full time and raising 2 young children. He accepted Jesus and was baptized at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church when he was 27 years old and he most recently was a member of First Baptist of Pleasant Grove. He is preceded in death by his parents Anthem and Linnie Knight Simpson, his siblings Marie Gilley, Jack Simpson, Dean Duncan, Hazel Luther, Jane Cox, Buddy Simpson, and Hassie Creel. He also lost his precious infant granddaughter Kasey Danielle Simpson. Left to cherish their precious memories of him are his beloved wife of 58 years Wanda Varden Simpson, and his children Joni Hawkins (Rusty) and Jeff Simpson (Lori); his grandchildren Hillary Hawkins, Holden Hawkins, Kaleb Simpson, Kolin Simpson and his great grandson Micah Hudson Ledbetter and his siblings Nadine Lawrence (Gerald), Raymond Simpson, and Edna Cox. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in law, and friends. "Pop" loved his wife and children so much and was so proud of all of them. He worked so hard and made sure they were all well taken care of. He was a man of "Faith and Family" and instilled those values into his children. He enjoyed watching sports and was a huge Alabama Football and Atlanta Braves Baseball fan. He was an outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He particularly loved to go turkey hunting. He was so loved and will be dearly missed. Services will be held at People's Chapel Funeral Home. The visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 with Bob Weber and Mike Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Creek Baptist Cemetery.
