JAMES LARRY McINTOSH

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Larry McIntosh who went to his heavenly home on October 1, 2025, at the age of 77. Larry was born on November 23, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from November of 1965 to November of 1971 with two deployments to Vietnam and deployments to many other countries. After retiring from U. S. Steel, he worked for many years as a truck driver. He loved the open road. Larry was also an avid University of Alabama football fan, and he loved fishing. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, P. Dianne McIntosh. They met in the summer of 1970 and were married on November 17, 1972. Larry is also survived by his two children, Deborah Kilgore (Kent) and David McIntosh (Britta). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Grace McIntosh, Braden Rushing, Piper McIntosh, Reagan McIntosh, William McIntosh, Justin Moody (Emmy), Kayla Dixson (Colby), Kristyn Cornelius (Chas), and seven great grandchildren, Willow Vines, Julianna Moody, Jordan Moody, Kollins Dixson, Bohdi Dixson, Lily Cornelius, and Nellie Cornelius. Larry is preceded in death by his mother Irene Luning and his father Benjamin McIntosh. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Gary Luning and Henry (Hank) Luning. Larry is also survived by his two sisters Linda McNaught (James) and Deborah Frenier (Doug), his two brothers Michael Luning (Malissa) and Patrick Luning, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held on October 7, 2025, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 and the funeral service will be at 11:00. Burial will immediately follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery (Across from Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 452 9th Avenue Pleasant Grove, AL). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, if desired, in honor of Larry’s memory and military service. The family will forever cherish the memory of a man who was kind, loving, humorous and whose presence brought joy, laughter, guidance, and compassion to everyone he met. He will be missed greatly.
