HAZEL MARIE JONES BARNETT

Hazel Marie Jones Barnett, age 84, passed away peacefully August 13, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 19, 1927 in Birmingham, AL to Wyatte Jackson Jones and Virginia Smith Jones. She was the third of four children: older sisters Frances Jones Cork, Lou Jones Tucker and younger brother Wyatte J. "Jack" Jones. She graduated from Hueytown High School where she met and fell in love with Archie Jerome Barnett, Jr. They were married for 52 years until his death in 2000. They had three children, Janet Marie Barnett Brandon, Archie Jerome Barnett, III and Barry Jay Barnett. They were born to a mother who was constant in her love, guidance and example. She chose to be humble, loving and charitable. Her children watched and learned. They know where to turn for peace because they watched their mother find it in Christ. Hazel Marie Jones Barnett is preceded in death by her husband Archie Jerome Barnett, Jr., her parents Wyatte Jackson Jones and Virginia Smith Jones, her precious daughter Janet Marie Barnett Brandon, her sister Frances Jones Cork, her brother Wyatte J. "Jack" Jones, and brother-in-law Lawrence Barnett. She is survived by her sons Archie J. (Jerry) Barnett, III (Debbie) and Barry Jay Barnett (Tracy), six grandchildren Jace Barnett, Shelby Barnett, Anna Barnett, Loryn Barnett, Jared Barnett and Jackson Barnett, sister Lou (Charlie) Tucker, sisters-in-law Billie Ruth Jones and Peggy Barnett, and many nieces and nephews. She was a most loving mother and grandmother. She was a longtime member of Vineland Park Baptist Church, a former member of Woodward Golf and Country Club and Craft Farms Country Club. The family would like to thank Magin McConnell, Dr. John Issis, Dr. Joanne Rossman and her staff, and the staff of Evercare Hospice for their gentle, loving care. Services will be held Wednesday, August 15, at 2:00 PM at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home (195 Brooklane Drive Hueytown, AL 35023). Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will be at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery (1343 Hueytown Road, Hueytown, AL 35023) directly following the service.
