GERALD O. MADDOX

Gerald passed away on May 30, 2024, after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ramond Duke Maddox and Lena Pace Maddox, uncle and aunt Henry and Georgia Goodwin, brothers Leon Maddox and Carl Maddox. He is survived by his wife, Candace K. Wright, daughters Lisa Maddox Johnson, Cindy Maddox Thomas (Billy), Cheryl Maddox Morgan (Chris), and stepdaughter Kelli Wright (John). His grandchildren Lauren Maddox Peterson (Justin), Owen Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Mallory Morgan Christopher (Justin), Andrew Kincaid Wright (Caroline), Katherine Arrendale Wright, Justis Johnson, and Josilyn Johnson. Great granddaughters Cailyn Peterson and Callaway Christopher. Brother George Maddox. Special cousins Joann Whitt. Barbara Lege, Jimmie Goodwin (Wanda), James Goodwin and Linda Tyree (Mike). Many beloved nephews and nieces. His loved dogs Gracie, Billie, and Ginger, as well as many cats, which were all rescued. Gerald was born on December 6, 1941, in Piedmont, Al. He lost his mother and father at a young age and was welcomed into his uncle and aunt’s home to live with his cousins. He attended Piedmont schools and was a member of the Piedmont Congregational Holiness Church. After school, he proudly joined the Army in January 1960. After his honorable discharge, he returned home for a while but then moved to Anniston to work at Monsanto for 13 years. He moved to Midfield when he had an opportunity to manage a restaurant in Bessemer, Al. He decided he wasn’t cut out for that, so he became a car salesman at serval local dealers over the years, but Jim Burke was his favorite and his last until retirement. He was active during retirement, with church and jobs around the house and yard. He loved going to antique stores, thrift stores, yard sales and estate sales in search of new treasures that he didn’t need and knew it. He was a member of the Central Park Baptist Church and loved the Lord, his family, and Auburn Athletics. He is loved and will be missed. A graveside service will be held at 12:15 pm on Tuesday, June 4th, at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
