EVA NELL GAITHER

Eva Nell Gaither, age 79 of Hueytown, Al. beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Born November 9, 1945 to the late Henry Dalton Odom and Nellie Gertrude Odom in Parrish, Al.. She was affectionately known as Eva Nell to all family and friends. She was retired as an auditor from Wedlo Diamond Jeweler in Birmingham, Al.. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She spent countless days and nights as a mother supporting her children in sports and with that, no stranger to ballparks in and around the Birmingham area. Her biggest passion was playing cards and games as she was a strong competitor amongst all family and friends. She was also a great softball player standing tall, always in her first base position alongside her childhood best friend, Joan Lively Self. No one could have asked for a more devoted wife, mother and grandmother as she always wanted to be surrounded by her family. Some of her fondest memories were laughing at her husband’s notorious sense of humor. The ultimate prankster herself, she enjoyed practical jokes and all elements of surprise, usually at the cost of her children which never grew old up until her death. She was spontaneous, vivacious and full of life. She carried an unapologetic disposition and was known as being the Matriarch of the family. Despite her struggles through an F5 tornado, she remained steadfast in her faith to God and the circumstances around her. Eva Nell is preceded in death by husband, W.O. Gaither, Mother and Father, sister, Sarah Odom Self and brother Billy Odom. She is survived by two sons and a daughter all from Hueytown, Al., Timothy Scott Gaither, Christopher Dalton Gaither and Stacey Elise Gaither; 3 sisters, JoAnn Taylor, Connie Hitt and Nancy Cunningham and 1 brother, Buddy Odom; 3 grandchildren, Dalton Gaither, Madison Gaither and Maci Gaither; 2 great grandchildren, Khloe and Kendric Stone. Eva had great affection for her many nieces and nephews as well as her lifelong friends L.C. and Joan Self which preceded her in death. The visitation will be held at Peoples Chapel in Hueytown, Al. from 10am-11am, Friday, March 7, 2025. The funetal service will be at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home, with Mr. David Courington officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Al.
