EDNA LOUISE FLEMING DILLARD

Edna Louise Fleming Dillard went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2024 at the age of 83. At her end she was at peace, satisfied that her job here was done, her race well run. Her passing was filled with an outpouring of love and attended by members of her devoted family. She was born in Dolomite, Alabama on March 25, 1940, the youngest of 10 children. She attended Minor High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bill Dillard in 1957. Over the next 66 years, the couple lived in McDonald’s Chapel and Hueytown, Alabama, near their families and attending Katherwood Baptist, Vineland Park Baptist, and Hueytown Baptist Church. Her faith in Jesus Christ and her love of family were central to her life. Edna is survived by her husband Bill Dillard and two children: Sandy Dillard Carter (Mark) and Bill Dillard, Jr. She is survived as well by four grandchildren: Bethany Carter, Anna Carter, John Mark Carter (Keilah), and Jared Ben Carter; brother-in-law Phillip Dillard; sister-in-law Gail Dillard; and a host of nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, she held her friends close, including childhood and high school friends Wayne and Jane Gilliam, and Bruce and Carolyn Wangle. Her life was exemplified by two Bible verses. First is Proverbs 31:10 - Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies. And Proverbs 31:26-27 - She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. The family would wish as well to commend and thank the staffs at Princeton Hospital Palliative Care and Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care given to Edna in her final days. Their compassion for her and our family was sweet comfort in difficult times. She was our wife, our mother, our grandmother, our sister, our sister-in-law, our aunt, and our friend. While we mourn our temporary separation, we rejoice in and thank God for her deliverance. For we know she is now surrounded by inconceivable and immeasurable love. And we thank God that we are promised to join her. Services will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Peoples Chapel Funeral Home in Hueytown, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m and funeral sermon at 2:00 pm. Graveside service to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bessemer.
