EARNEST HERMAN "PHIL" PHILLIPS, SR.

Earnest Herman “Phil” Phillips, 93, of Concord, Clanton, and Irondale, passed away October 15, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Nichols Phillips. Mr. Phillips dedicated over 40 years to the Boy Scouts of America as an active volunteer, and he epitomized the organizations prioritization of God, country, and family. Mr Phillips demonstrated his devotion to God through time spent with Him. He read his Bible daily, setting the example for his family to follow.. Mr. Phillips made certain no man could question where his first love was. He showed love for his country by voluntarily enlisting in the Marine Corps during the second World War. His service took him from Marshall Islands to Marianas Islands and on to Iwo Jima. When he returned home, he devoted time to Scouting as a way of passing his principles down to future generations. Mr. Phillips poured his life into countless young men and women. His contributions earned him scouting's highest adult honor: the silver beaver. Mr. Phillips’ love for his family continues to radiate through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Known to travel for visits, fish with family, or just sit on the porch and chat, Mr. Phillips ensured his kin knew they were loved and where a hug was always waiting. God, Country, Family. Survivors include his sons Earnest Phillips Jr., Rick Phillips (Nancy), Paul Phillips (Cindy); daughter Cathy Phillips King; his grandchildren Chris Phillips (Kim), James Phillips (Leigh Ann), Jeremy Phillips, Rebekah Phillips Brown (Jeremy), Rachel Phillips McGahon (Barry), Elizabeth Phillips Smith (Damion), Heather Phillips Fuentes (Fernando), Casey Phillips Rawls (Steven), Lindsey Phillips, Kelsey King Markley, Hadley King and Samuel King; great grandchildren Keith Phillips, Hunter Higgins, Krista Phillips, Chase Phillips, Bethany Phillips, Joanna Phillips, Philip Brown, Avery Brown, Patrick McGahon, Steven Smith, Joshua Smith, Jason Smith, Lucy Smith, Abigail Rawls, Andrew II, Victor and Tristen. The visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2017, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. A service will follow at 12:30 PM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Bro. Mike Stevens officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Boy Scouts of America.
