ALZAYDA BLAIR

Blair, Alzayda Ash age 85, of Hueytown and a resident of Galleria Woods since 2007, died April 14, 2018, after a recent illness. Mrs. Blair was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Hueytown and was involved in many activities, committees and a long time choir member. She was a graduate of Phillips High School. She worked at Birmingham Trust National Bank in 1953, where she met her future husband, Fred T. Blair. This marital union allowed them to enjoy many great adventures throughout his banking career. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in baseball, football, wrestling and show choir and their activities were always part of her greatest pride. She was always a devoted Auburn football fan and in later years became a fan of Atlanta Braves Baseball. She loved her frequent bingo games and her weekly Sneaky Pete hot dogs. She was a committed matriarch to the family and cherished by all. She will be remembered for her smile, her stern look, her sense of humor and her loving devotion and loyalty to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Fred T. Blair and by her parents, Omer F. Ash and Kate Pardue Ash, Brother Delgan Ash and Sister Carolyn Ash Gargus. She is survived by her two sons Thomas Ashley (Pam) Blair and Milton Fred (Sharon) Blair. Other survivors include grandchildren Jason Michael (Bridget) Blair, Scott Thomas (Britni) Blair, Alan Timothy (Lauren) Blair; Barett Ashleigh Blair (Steve) Amato; Great – Grandchildren Claudia Drew Blair, Aubrey Peyton Blair, Jack Thomas Blair, and her namesake Mary Zayda Blair; Step Great-Grandchildren Ethan and Jordan Morgan, Eric and Charli Amato. The visitation will be Tuesday, April 16, 2018, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church of Hueytown, 110 Sunset Drive. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at the Church, with the Reverends Dean Bowers, John Simmons, and Nathan Carden officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Hueytown. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Galleria Woods for their special care provided to “Nana” all these years.
