REV. HERBERT "BROTHER JACK'" C. HENDRICKS JR.

Rev. Herbert C. Hendricks, Jr. “Brother Jack”, age 89, resident of Cullman, AL died June 16, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born July 9, 1933 in Escambia County, AL. He graduated from Tarrant High School in 1952. He served in the US Army in Korea. He held an undergraduate degree from Florence State College (Now UNA), where he met his wife, Peggy Renfro. At the time of his death they had been married more than 65 years. He held a Master of Divinity degree from Chandler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. He served 39 years as an active itinerant minister, serving 22 different churches on 12 charges in the North Alabama conference of the United Methodist Church. After retirement he served in various ministerial roles at Hueytown First UMC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Wilma Hendricks, brother in law Robert “Bob” Johnson; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife Peggy; children Heather Bliss, Herbert C. Hendricks, III “Jay” (Stacey), Holly Dennis (Rick); grandchildren Jamie Hendricks (Brooke), Andrea Bliss (Michele), Parker Hendricks (Elise), Leslie Hendricks Grissom (Eddie), Robert “Trey” Bliss, Jacob Manning (Abby), Jared Manning (Madison), and Jason Manning; great grandchildren Jackson, Oliver and Ben Hendricks; Rylee and Avery Grissom; Juliette Bliss VanRosendael; brother Ben Hendricks (Libby), of Covington, GA; and sister Mary Johnson of Cullman, AL; and many nieces, nephew and cousins. His wife and children would like to thank Aveanna Hospice of Cullman for the love and care they gave to our loved one. Above and beyond doesn’t even begin to describe what they did for him and us. Special thanks to Sean Jackson and Chasity Quinn. The vistitation will be Wednesday, June 21, 2023. from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Cullman First United Methodist Church, 320 3rd Ave. SE, Cullman, AL 35055. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at the Church, with Rev. Reagin Brown, Rev. Don Neal, and Rev. Emily Penfield officiating. Burial will follow at Remlap Cemetery, 17259 Remlap Drive, Remlap, AL 35123. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to UMCOR (umcmission.org) or embracealkids.org (formerly the United Methodist Children’s Home of Alabama)
